The 5th grade IAA students did a fantastic job writing
song lyrics during their integrated arts time in music. They worked in groups of 4 and wrote about what they thought are important human rights. Here are 2 sets of lyrics (2 verses per group). They have been working with dynamics (p, mp, mf, f, crescendo, decrescendo), following the cues of a conductor, correct singing posture, and human rights.
4th graders began to write their own rhythm compositions. They chose 2 others to help them read and play their 3-part pieces.
The 5th grades did a superb job this week of using the dynamics f, mf, mp, p, crescendo and decrescendo to arrange a song to sing. Deng (Ms Low's class) and Zander (Mr Whitman's class) both conducted the arrangement and gave cues for their class. We all realized that a conductor of an orchestra has a lot to do!!
The Step Program has children from all corners of the world learning English in a full-day intensive classroom. This year, students are from Nepal, Kenya, and Djibouti. The IAA Music program is very important for them, as they learn language fluency through singing, playing instruments, and moving to music. Here they are singing their version of Frere Jacques: Are You Listening. |
