I was honored to accompany Gracie Bangoura (and 2 other IAA students) to the Opus 29 Concert at the Elley-Long Music Center last night. The Opus concerts showcase school-age composers and Gracie's piece, A Bright Day, was one of the 29 pieces chosen and performed by a professional ensemble, which she wrote for trumpet, piano, tuba and drum. Gracie rehearsed her ensemble in the afternoon, then sat back and listened to it as part of the evening concert. The composing talent displayed was extraordinary and we all were inspired to continue our musical journeys through more composing! The Music-COMP organization that sponsors this professional mentoring program is leading-edge, as many Vermont initiatives are You can see their mission here:www.music-comp.org.
